There’s a social network for dogs, several actually, there are a few old timers, and there’s even a social network for those who hate social networks, so why not one for merchant navy officers? SeaFolks is dedicated to sea lovin’, navy folk from all over the globe. The site offers info on navigation nautical studies, cruise ships, international shipping companies, maritime shore jobs and of course the merchant navy, among others. SeaFolks sticks to the staple social functions: blogs, forums, photos, and groups. Users can vote and comment on each other’s profiles, and photos. Photos from the public gallery may be embedded in profiles and blogs across the web.

Being in the merchant navy can be grueling and at times lonely, I imagine, which makes SeaFolks especially relevant. Though the site is rather simple right now, it could attract quite a few people looking to share tales of the sea and to meet others in the same line of work.

The site really needs a redesign—it looks rather slap dash. More features: messaging, friends, a section dedicated to sea stories would be interesting, also perhaps a category for finding jobs and for advice.
