Recruitinggrounds.com - MySpace for Video Gamers

Recruiting Grounds was started by two passionate video gamers as a niche social networking site. They offer the usual array of social networking services, from personal profiles to blogging to a forum to incorporating music and videos.

And they also sponsor contests, tournaments, live chats, tutorials, cheats, walk throughs (gamer speak, i assume). The site is well-designed and appealing, and I like that it was created and is still managed by two passionate video gamers. Oh, and the site is free, which is typical of social networking sites.

    Recruitinggrounds.com In their own words

Gamers are some of the most passionate hobbyists there are. The diversity of the activity allow for solo or massive group play. We believe that a large community of gamers to engage with will lead to a more meaningful gaming experience. With the inception of internet game play, the paradigm of multiplayer gaming has shifted. Gaming enthusiasts no longer have to crowd together on the neighbors couch to get a multiplayer experience. Our website acts as a funnel that unites gamers in scattered locations. Finding a new friend/opponent to play with online or locally is just an instant message away with Recruiting Grounds. We Cater to All Gamers - The Old School, The New Age...Whatever! Whether your a PC game player who loves World of Warcraft, an Xbox/Halo enthusiast or an Atari/Pac Man enthusiast, you will find someone with similar interests on recruiting grounds. We do not discriminate on the basis of skill level, race or gender. Our forums, gamer chat or events will surely aid you in the search for gaming companionship, even if you are just looking for a date Friday night. Have Fun This site was built for you. Feel free to express yourself (within reason). The saying 'me casa su casa' applies here. See you on the board!

Why Recruitinggrounds.com might be a killer

Video gaming is one of the biggest industries for those in their teens and young adulthood (mostly boys/men, i think). The market potential for a site targeting such a key demographic seems huge. Also, the fact that actual gamers have built and run the site adds to its ability to stay fresh and relevant.

    Some questions about Recruitinggrounds.com

Do video gamers want a niche social networking site or do they just use MySpace, etc? Have these guys tried to partner with the video game industry to sponsor contests and build membership? Have they sought out sponsorship from the industry to get more funds and do more marketing? Do they have a business plan?
