Ning.com - Create Your Own Social Network for Anything

    ning

Forget joining another social network. This time, you can create your own. With Ning, you can choose who´s in your network, what it looks like, what functions to add to the network, and more. Create a page for your group of high school friends to stay connected after you´ve graduated, or a page for your office so that employees can get to know each other better and have a fun way to share information about what´s going on both in their worlds and in the business. You can also join other communities that have been formed and made public and ask people to be your friends, just like any other social network, but now you can control your own space and make it as exclusive or inclusive as you like.

    In their own words

“Marc and I founded Ning in October 2004 to give everyone the opportunity to create social networks. Two years later, Ning powers over 30,000 social networks and counting.

Why it might be a killer

This is perfect for office communities, fraternity and sororities, and other groups to keep photos, videos, and all other info on what´s going on in the group in one central location. It´s really easy to manage, so that anyone can create their own group without any hassle. Ning is like Yahoo Groups, but with more functions, cooler interfaces, and a more personable feel.

    Some questions

How will they get people to switch from places like Yahoo Groups and Live Spaces where they already have their networks set up to Ning, where they have to start fresh? Will enough companies opt to customize their sites, keep their domain names, and add bandwidth for Ning to make a profit?
