MyChurch.org - MySpace for the Faithful

Churches connect people, certainly. Whether you are Episcopalian, Latter-Day Saints, Catholic, or Latvian Orthodox, there’s bound to be some sort of get together, be it spaghetti feed, brunch or rummage sale.

However, religious institutions aren’t particularly renowned for being cutting edge or in touch with modern day mainstays like the internet. MyChurch.org aims to change that. It’s a place where churches (Christian ones, that follow the Nicene Creed) can reach out and touch faith so to speak. Mychurch lets church community members interact online . They’ve got a social network, blogs, photos, and event calendars. Individual members get their own profiles, complete with pics, and personal statements. Churches also have profiles where they can post community updates, events, bulletins and photos. There’s even a media section so pastors and priests can upload their sermons. Church members can then discuss and make comments on the Sunday service. There are also groups, message boards, and church to church networking. MyChurch is all about getting together and spreading the word online. Premium services ( phone support, ad-free church pages, donation buttons, disk space, and customized T&C) are available for a fee, however basic services are free to all.

    Mychurch.org In their own words

“MyChurch.org is a free online tool for churches to outreach and build community by networking their congregation. Amongst some of its features are a library for sermons and media, a social network, a sharing board, a collaborative blog, a photo sharing app, and an event calendar for you and your church. There are premium subscriptions available for a monthly fee for churches who wish to have extra disk space, support, and services (see the FAQ for more details).”

Why Mychurch.org might be a killer

There’s a huge community for this. Faith based social networks are lacking and there are plenty of faithful people out there. It’s MySpace for the faithful. MyChurch provides for more in-depth interaction. Events are easily organized and announced. Members can form their own groups and get to know eachother better.

    Some questions about Mychurch.org

Will churches get into social networking? Does MyChurch discriminate? Religion is often fraught with controversy, will MyChurch prove the same?
