MetroFunk.com - Exclusive Social Network for Trendy Set

    metrofunk

Want to join an ultra exclusive, creative, trendy types only social network? Don’t we all? Try your luck at Metrofunk. The site’s goal is to bring all the normally offline trendsetters and cool folks into the online world where they can collaborate, plan parties, schmooze and discuss their avant garde hair styles and taste in music. Basically, anyone who has their foot in something hip or funky, whether it be film, montage, music, collages, or whatever, can join—or try to join. The sign up process isn’t short and snappy—you actually have to verify your mobile number, upload a photo, and type in your invitecode. Yes, you have to be invited by an existing network. Once invited though, you’ll get VIP treatment. All content is displayed according to popularity (much like Digg), thus only the trendy site members and not editors decide what’s hot and what’s not.

    In their own words

“Metrofunk.com is metropolitan based “invite only” online mobile and social network
focused exclusively on anything trendy and funky in the fabulous worlds
of nightlife, fashion, music, and film. By "anything" we mean anything:
people, events, videos, articles, photos and blogs.
The Metrofunk project is collaborative effort that began two years ago
by a team of industry veterans and trendsetters:
nightlife personalities, fashion designers, independent artists, and film makers.”

Why it might be a killer

In theory this ultra hip and exclusive site could provide a open and fruitful platform for trendsetters to get some groupthink done and trade ideas, information, tips, etc. They could brainstorm magnificent projects, make new friends and party. The launch fete included such notables as Ashlee Simpson and John Mayer and Mickey Avalon. Talk about cool.

    Some questions

Is this nothing more than a platform for third rate celebrities and scenesters to up their exclusivity factor and pat themselves on the back? Does it actualyl facilitate collaboration or successful activities? Who decides who gets in?
