How many social networking sites that let us interact based on where we are will see release before the year ends? It obviously won’t reach the extreme of the year Twitter broke big and we saw about a zillion applications being released each day. But the number will be anything but insignificant.

The one I want to tell you about now is Jamafriend. In a nutshell, it is a social networking application that will let you specify where it is that you are situated, and then proceed to display both your location and your friends' using a big Google map. And that Google Map will come complete with links to headline news, weather information and current events.

The idea is that by using this site you won’t have to ask your friends and loved ones what’s the weather like, or what are the latest news since that information is retrieved and displayed for you.

In any case, it must be emphasized that Jamafriend does not automatically geolocate where you are. That information will only be provided if you decide to supply it personally, and if you authorize Jamafriend to share it.

“Jamafriend is a social networking application that displays your location and your friends' location on the Google map with links to current weather, headline news and current events as long as valid locations were provided. To protect people's privacy, Jamafriend doesn't automatically geolocate your location. It's up to you if you want to provide your location and manually enter it on our system. Hence, if you don't provide your location, we can't display it.”
