PlayHut, a child-oriented company dedicated to the creation of toys and play environments, has just launched GoLive2 Kraze an online community for kids. Like Habbo Hotel and other virtual environments for the young, GoLive2 is filled with games, pictures, videos, and fun; all this, of course, is moderated and completely safe. Unlike other similar sites however, Kraze features two separate, gender specific worlds: Onimech for boys which features battling Wowbotz, and Zynia a world filled with Mystikat Kutties, cute creatures meant to capture the hearts of little girls. In each world there are different hangout areas where users can chat using IM or a microphone, and have fun with different media types. Playing games provides virtual cash rewards which can be exchanged for buying new duds and furniture. The service has a complete parent's guide so moms and dads can rest assured that their young ones are having loads of safe and sound fun. The chat option comes with safety measures limiting the amount of information that can be made available, by way of prewritten messages. Both worlds are free to join, although the under 18 crowd will need parental permission to register.

What makes the Krazeâ„¢ unique from every other kids online community is threefold:
First, the Krazeâ„¢ features two distinct, gender-specific worlds: Onimech, home of the battle AI robots the Wowbotzâ„¢, and Zynia, home of the adorable and fun-loving Mystik Kuttiesâ„¢. Of course, both worlds are open to all kids.
Secondly, every social area and personal room in the Krazeâ„¢ features video and audio capabilities. Just hook up your webcam and microphone, and let the Krazeâ„¢ Kids see the kid behind the character (And parents, worry not! Unlike other virtual worlds for kids Kraze actually has created two worlds for the two distinct genders. This may help to keep things safe, and give the kids a freer and open environment in which to play. The graphics and artwork are pretty sleek in a cutesy, kid way.

|
|
Is it wise to offer two separate, gender-specific worlds? Will this become too consumer oriented? How will they insure kids' safety with no age caps?
