    DietTelevision.com - MySpace for Dieters

    diettelevision

Who in the United States hasn't been on a diet? Who in US hasn't been on a diet and failed? Probably no one. This site aims to improve the success rate of weight loss programs by providing expert medical advice, site staff support and peer support (think MySpace for dieters). You can link up with others to keep each other on track and motivated. They also try to tailor diets and exercise plans to your particular needs and issues. It is a model that is replicated on a variety of sites out there, but I believe there is more than enough of a market to handle all of these sites. I liked their focus on advice and information (eat less, exercise more - to make it simple) rather than selling products or fad diets (take this pill or just eat peanut butter!). I also liked the positive attitude and the optimistic ambience of the site. I even liked the bottom ticker with specific advice (such as 'top ten foods to avoid'). The main element seemingly missing was a comprehensive individual tracking system that i have seen on other sites. Otherwise, the site is useful, informative and has a noteworthy purpose.

    In their own words

DIET doesn't have to be such an ugly word. Let's change the way the world thinks about dieting. We think of a DIET as a fresh start, empowerment, a plan for preventative health care and also peace of mind. We aren’t selling any weight loss gimmicks. We’re simply applauding your courage and determination to make yourself healthier and happier, one pound at a time. Do you want to lose 5, 10, 15 pounds and haven’t been able to make it happen? Need to get ready for a wedding or a beach vacation? Maybe it’s leftover baby weight or maybe it’s a beer belly (which brewed up in college). No matter where the weight came from, we can help you take it off. We are not here to sell you anything – we promise. All we do is put a wealth of weight-loss information at your finger tips, give you access to experts, weight-loss tracking tools, meal plans, plus a rock-strong community of other dieters to offer cheerleading, and best of all, friendship. You have nothing to lose, except for that extra weight, of course.

Why it might be a killer

Everyone and their mother has been on a diet and will likely go on another one soon. The target market for this site is comprised of millions and this site offers a positive, informative and realistic approach to support and help weight loss efforts. I also like that it is free and focused on genuinely helping people lose weight and empower themselves through the social networking model.

    Some questions

Why have they not incorporated a sophisticated food/diet/weight loss tracking system? How are they marketing themselves to stand out from their competitors? It would seem easy for the site to gain sponsors/advertisers, but I didn't see any (not that i'm complaining).

    Updates

The site is new and just getting its footing. They hope to turn social networking profiles on their head by creating profiles that share successes, tips and encouragement.
