Cupidslab.com - Online Dating by Matchmaking

    cupidslab

Cupid's Lab is an interesting twist on the online dating game. Started by a computer programmer who loves to find solutions, the idea is to have friends be matchmakers for other friends. The creator believes friends are probably more adept at choosing potential love matches for their friends than the computer programs and algorithms used in tradidional online dating sites. From what I understand, you create an account, ask your friends to join, and then try to match them up. After browsing a bit, the site in practice is a little hazy because there are no good explanations or instructions on the site yet, but I assume the creator knows the format and intends to convey it to the world soon.

    In their own words

I built this site as an experiment because dating and romance has always interested me. It amazes me how it's easy for some to find a match and how difficult it is for others. As a programmer I am always trying to find solutions to a problem and Cupid's Lab is my solution for those who are wandering the web searching aimlessly for a romantic connection. While most online dating sites put the daters in control and assist them in finding matches through complex algorithms and detailed queries, I was curious to see how it would be if a simple human touch was added and let those who know us best try to find us a match within their social network. I invite you to invite your single friends to participate and try to connect them with someone special. Happy matching and enjoy!

Why it might be a killer

Online dating continues to grow in popularity and use, because meeting people at bars just doesn't seem appealing to many people. Of course, neither does online dating, but people are still giving it a whirl. I like the fact that this site is trying a new approach to this genre, which is one that has been employed for millions of years: matchmaking. I think after fine tuning, marketing, and a better explanation of exactly how the site workds, it has a lot of potential.

    Some questions

What is the timeline for developing a better explanation of how the site works? What markets is the site targeting initially? Just New York City or other big cities? How do they hope to let people know about the site? Are they trying to get press on this new approach to dating?
