In their own words
"College Tonight is a social networking experience for college-aged students, graduate students and alumni, one that promotes actual social interactivity rather than the sedentary lifestyle nearly all "social networks" relegate its users to behind a physical computer screen. It is what "social networking" should have evolved into by 2007, but has not.
College Tonight focuses on nightlife events and social opportunities both directly on a student's campus and within their broader communities. Students visit the site in order to become aware of events and receive unique promotions for after school hours both on weekdays and weekends. We arm them with the knowledge and confidence to pursue whatever they socially desire. Our unique platform allows the advertising sector to tap into a world of active, outgoing, and socially motivated college students. Our members are the social tastemakers, the most coveted and sought-after group of individuals in the world. The trend starts with College Tonight. College Tonight is however much more than nightlife site. With greater functional and integrated mobility than any other networking website, it will redefine how social networks are perceived and used. College Tonight has reinvented what young people have come to expect from social networking. College Tonight is not simply a website, it is a "social sidekick".
Why it might be a killer
I always thought the idea behind social networks was to one day meet these so called "friends" in the flesh. In most cases that is not the outcome, but with the College Tonight network you can make friends online and by attending events. You will make friends that you actually send time with and see. College Tonight is a great idea, you can never have too many opportunities for a Friday night, and College Night updates you about events on and off campus.
Some questions
CollegeTonight.com is a social network for college students and alumni. In order to join CollegeTonight.com you must have an edu email address. Is there a way for alums to join if they no longer have their edu email addresses? Orkut is a social network, used mostly by Brazilians, that has groups for certain clubs. Once you join a club's group you get notifications about certain events and promotions at the club. CollegeTonight.com could do a similar thing with college bars, so students who join will be notified about special events.
