    Alumwire.com - Real Connections

Alumwire claims that it makes “real connections”- presumably in response to all of the more overtly superficial college-age social networking sites. Indeed, in comparison to just hoarding friends, Alumwire connections are geared towards procuring college students and recent alumni jobs and internships, as well as to provide recruiters with an avenue to reach this demographic.

The site features a “video handshake” through which members can virtually introduce themselves to others. Users can search for jobs through the site, or through an embedded career builder search.

    Alumwire.com In their own words

“Alumwire is an interactive career network for college students and young alumni to find jobs, internships, and other career opportunities. We are the premier professional college network that provides alumni, students, and recruiters personal and professional opportunities. Our unique multimedia platform includes video handshakes (video introductions), allowing users to show more than just their paper resumes to employers and potential employees. Our patent pending technology allows recruiters and job seekers increased interaction via an alumni association.”

Why Alumwire.com might be a killer

Alumwire recognizes that college students and recent alumni are an important demographic that have more needs than collecting friends. In fact, the job search is likely the #1 thing on a recent graduate’s mind, and there is definitely room in the market for a websites that showcases interesting, entry-level jobs.

    Some questions about Alumwire.com

Are students and alumni more likely to use a site that includes thousands of other students competing for the same positions offered by recruiters, or will they visit their own career center, where they face competition primarily only from their own classmates? Also, as a minor pet peeve, why are the generic profile photos of a male silhouette?
