Tom versus Jerry? Maradona versus Pele? Godzilla versus KingKong? The greatest rivalries spark great debate, and Rivals4Ever hopes to be the forum for the discussion. The web site lists sets of classic rivals, and users are given the chance to vote and comment on each topic. Each nomination has “weapons” (Pepsi- a big sugar dose, versus Coke- the best brand in the world), “weaknesses” (Pepsi- watery, versus Coke- old fashioned), as well as images and videos uploaded by fans, a discussion board, and upcoming events. In all, Rivals4Ever has over nine categories of rivals, ranging from automotive to politics, and more are created every day.

As they say in the social sciences, people are better mobilized in reaction to something else- an enemy, a strong dislike- or a rivalry. Rivals4Ever plays on this concept, and is very successful at nurturing active participation in its members. Moreover, because so many of the rivalries involve brands (and extreme passion associated with those brands) there is amazing potential for advertisers.
