Shadow Poetry was founded on February 26, 2000 as an organization devoted to poetry writing, education, and offering quality services to writers around the whole world. The Shadow Poetry website was built in March, around an email-based poetry group once offered through Yahoo Groups, but the needs of its members could not be contained by an email list alone. In time, Shadow Poetry developed into a writer’s resource and publishing house. With overwhelming growth of the site, the email group was closed at the end of 2004 to focus more upon education, publication, and contest hosting. Its goal is to help poets improve writing skills, increase knowledge of poetry forms, build self-confidence, and receive recognition for their work in a friendly and supportive environment.
