The Quality Deer Management Association is a non-profit wildlife conservation organization which uses a management practice that unites landowners, hunters, and mangers in the common goal of producing balanced herds. In order to succeed in this endeavor and achieve the production of quality deer, habitat, and quality hunting experiences it is necessary to have quality hunters involved. Typically this approach requires the protection of young bucks combined with an adequate harvest of female deer to maintain a healthy population balance. A successful program requires an increased knowledge of deer biology and active participation in management. The guidelines for quality deer management are formulated according to property-specific objectives, goals, and limitations. The QDMA has developed several partnerships with stat wildlife agencies, hunting groups, product manufacturers, and timber companies in order to increase awareness and participation in this management philosophy.
