People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is the meaning of PETA which is the largest animal rights organization in the world. This organization has more than 1.8 million members and supporters around the world. PETA focuses in the areas of the industry where the largest number of animals suffer for the longest periods of time. Those areas are on factory farms, in laboratories, in the clothing trade, and in the entertainment industry. What is more, they also work on other issues that include the cruel killing of beavers, birds and other "pests," and the abuse of backyard dogs.
