The National Library of Australia is the largest library in the country, receiving over 120,000 journal issues, 70,000 newspaper issues, and 45,000 books each year. Founded in 1901, The National Library of Australia served only as a Commonwealth Library, and a Federal Parliament reference place. An Act was put in place in 1960, which formally separated the National Library from the Parliament Library; therefore, allowing for both libraries to continue to expand. The library collects Australiana publications, Government publications, general collection publications, formed publications, rare publications, Asian publications, Pacific publications, treasured publications, and many more publications. The National Library of Australia also publishes articles such as: books on photography, dace, personal diaries, Australian history, and childhood, which reveal the stories and images of Australia.
