Fuel Cells 2000 is an activity of the Breakthrough Technologies Institute, a non-profit independent, educational organization that identifies and promotes environmental and energy technologies that can improve the human condition. Its mission is to promote the commercialization of fuel cells and hydrogen by supplying accurate, unbiased information, developing and disseminating summary materials accessible to a general audience, and providing a portal fro researchers, developers, suppliers, government officials, and opinion leaders and others interested in the sector. What is a fuel cell? It is an electrochemical device that combines hydrogen and oxygen to produce electricity, with water and heat as its by-product. Since the conversion of the fuel to energy takes place via an electrochemical process, not combustion, the process is completely clean, quiet, and highly efficient.
