Zoopy is South Africa"s first photography and video sharing social network. Zoopy,whose name seems to have sprung up in a dream, has all the networking reqs: channels, groups, profiles, and competitions. On Zoopy"s home page you"ll find featured videos, today it"s "The Struggle for Press Freedom." You"ll also find members, hot video tags, and video channels featuring how-tos, ads, nightlife and cars among other things. The current competition consists of something called "Claim to Fame" in which members are invited to tape their talent(s) and share them with the world, or at least with South Africa; the winning Zoopylean gets a 30GB iPod and of course, instant online celebrity. Zoopy also features a mobile component so you can send photos and network on the go. You"ve got to be thirteen or older to use the site, and South African, or perhaps an honorary one at least.

It"s about time South Africa got its own social network with videos and photos, isn"t it? It"s always a feat when your country has can call a thing its own. Zoopy has all the necessary network components, it"s got a comfortable feel to it, and the inteface is easy for all to use.

Will South Africans use the site? After all there are already volumes and volumes of such networking sites out there. Zoopy might get lost amidst the odds. And without anything really new to contribute, besides being South African, Zoopy has fierce competition to face.
