    Yoople.net - Rank Your Searches

    yoople

The newly launched search engine Yoople is giving searchers a say in how results are ranked; unlike the search engines after which it´s named, (Yahoo+Google), Yoople is collaborative; it operates in with a human touch, rather than just relying on a machine, whose results may or may not be just what you´re looking for. With Yoople, users are actually able to drag and drop search results, changing their overall ranking. So shifting a result downward decreases its Yoople factor, meaning that further searches will actually show the shifted results. Each time a result is shifted Yoople tracks it with a color coded box. Purple indicates that the Yoople position is higher than the Yahoo position; green is indicative of an equal ranking; and finally, grey means that Yoople´s result is lower than Yahoo´s. Yoople itself is not a new kind of search engine; rather it works with Yahoo web search services to improve upon searches. As such queries are limited to 5,000 a day, so you may experience some difficulties after multiple searches.

    In their own words

“At Yoople! Project we believe that Web Searches are quite good, but not as smart as a human brain could do. As today we are forced to accept the order given by search engines and click the results as they are, unfortunately this does not mean the human searcher agrees with the returned results index. Moreover clicking a result does not mean the website contains the contents we were looking for.

Why it might be a killer

Yoople brings the human element back into searching; by allowing users to rank results, searches will be smarter and more relevant.

    Some questions

Essentially this is more of a experiment, will it develop into an actual new search engine? Will users want to take the time to drag and drop results?
