theregister.com - Biting the hand that feeds IT

UK based, The register has a US version as well; it is a news briefing site, dealing mainly but not exclusively with science, technology and internet, putting together bits and pieces of strange and interesting information that is useful to basically anybody concerned with being updated in these issues. Its rather comprehensive section on law news, gathering information and opinion articles on copyright issues for web applications, mobile tech and other related topics will prove particularly interesting for analysts and independent developers. It also carries an index of tech vacancies, so in case you are looking for a job, this seems to be a good site to start your search: These people definitely know their business. The register is also divided into sections with highly specialized information on software, hardware and technology corporate news; possibly the best of them is an anthology of in depth articles on management of information technology assets which you shouldn't miss if you are interested in ITs.

  In their own words

"The Register is the online newspaper for the global tech workforce. It reaches millions of IT Professionals across the globe each month. Our readers value our output and our unique view of the industry: that's why they keep coming back for more".

"The Register offers a range of advertising and marketing solutions for clients large and small enabling them to communicate with its vast IT Professional community. Its sales and fulfillment teams work to ensure the best possible message reaches the most valuable audience".

Why it might be a killer

This site is really very thorough and objective, and it can be funny at times too. It can be a killer for the simple reason that its content is highly specialized and frequently updated, and therefore can reach a clearly defined IT oriented target. It also has a considerable affluence of visitors –they claim 4m+ on november 2005, but have not updated the information since then, but it seems easy to say that is has increased considerably.

  Some questions

Unfortunately, The Register has a sloppy, slightly crammed up design that can make your visit to the site a rather confusing experience. Will they clean it up a bit in order to make their cool info rise and shine?
