SearchMotive.com - Search Results From Humans

    searchmotive

A service that is out in beta right now but which is fully functional nonetheless, Search Motive scours the web and provides you with search results that are human powered. These search results take into account the most popular and widespread sites that gather user-generated content on the web today. By way of example, these include Twitter, Flickr, YouTube and Hulu.

As it has just been mentioned, the site is in beta but you can fully use as it stands. For the time being, only three refinement labels are featured: “Web”, “Images” and “Video”. If you click on any of these, you are provided with a list of the most popular searches for you to mull over and see which uses this engine is being put to.

I feel it is really nice to have alternatives, and although I did not perceive any marked improvement over other search channels when using this new engine I am interested in the way it will evolve. Of course, it might seem a little superfluous if we compare it with something like Wolfram’s recent heavy-hitter, but that is the way these things go.

    In their own words

“We provide search results from humans, not webcrawlers! Get relevant, recent, and real-time search results from the most popular social networking and user-submitted content sites including Twitter, Digg, Hulu, Flickr, YouTube, and many more! Hey, we’re in beta mode! Our service is currently being beta tested. Feel free to use our service as much as you want.”

Why it might be a killer

Different people want different things, and those who are not satisfied by other search alternatives either because they think they are biased or anything like that will find it worth a look.

    Some questions

How can this site become widespread in the face of all the increasing competition? What gives it an appeal of its own?
