NewsTree.org - A Search Engine For Alternative News

    newstree

Looking for news that isn’t ‘brought to you by so and so, maker of sickly sweet soft drinks’ or owned by megacorporations, or affiliated with company x polluter of rivers and oceans? If that’s the case, head on over to NewsTree, your search engine for alternative news. Their news is pulled from sites that don’t have to kowtow to the corporate demigods. The engine gives you two options as far as searching goes, video and news. There’s also an option to sort videos by date, e.g. today, or this week. Although some of the videos/news isn’t as hard-hitting as the stuff that Nightline churns out, (e.g. the video entitled ‘why children who braid it like Beckham risk losing hair’) you’ll find tons of intriguing, brain-stirring content. Fresh goods are released all the time, so don’t miss out.

    In their own words

“Newstree is a vertical search engine for alternative news media. Our index includes news content from sites that are neither owned by nor affiliated with 'Big' corporations. We crawl all sources for fresh content every couple of hours.”

Why it might be a killer

The news is slippery business. While many complain of a liberal slant, many news organizations aren’t exactly neutral. NewsTree provides a new alternative for finding the kind of angles and insight that major news outlets don’t offer.

    Some questions

How biased is NewsTree? While they claim to find alternative news, much of that news is bound to have an agenda. What is the criteria for indexing news sources? How easy is it to find what you’re looking for?
