    NanoCrowd.com - A New Movie Search Engine

    nanocrowd

There are a plethora of sites that let internauts convene together and share their insight and opinion as regards any given issue, and movies are no exception to the rule. A couple of services have also cropped up recently that stand as recommendation engines that weigh up different factors in order to produce suggestions that will resonate with you. This website falls in that category, and it analyzes viewer comments in order to provide you with a list of movies that in theory should suit your tastes.

All you have to do is furnish the name of the movie that you like, and the system does the rest. Note that for it to work you have to supply the name of a movie which is currently part of the existing list. This list is expanded daily, and heavy-hitters like Iron Man, Harry Potter and There Will Be Blood are prominently featured. You also have the option to pick a “nanogenre” from the provided ones – these are mainly three-word labels that represent your mood at any given time.

Whenever you carry out a search, you are not only provided a list detailing the most similar movies but also a chart including the movies that are dissimilar the most to the one your search revolved about.

All in all, this is a new service that will be quite compelling once the database has expanded itself. For the time being, you can get a taster by setting your browser to www.nanocrowd.com. Chances are you will like any of the movies that are currently included, and you will be able to proceed from there.

    In their own words

“Nanocrowd is a group of nerds who wondered about a couple things: 1)With all the viewer commentary about movies, why is it so hard to get a sense of what movies I’ll enjoy? 2)When I go to movie sites to find a movie, why don’t their recommendations make sense? We decided to put those two things together and use movie commentary to recommend movies people would like. Our approach is new and different. We write magical search algorithms that interpret comments people like you have written about movies. No editors. No movie critics. We analyze the millions of viewer comments from all over the Web to gain exciting insights into what movies are really about and what people think of them. Based on those insights, we find movies that you’d like to watch.”

Why it might be a killer

Film buffs everywhere will make the best out of it, and so will any person looking for movies that match his or her own tastes.

    Some questions

How many movies are added per day to the database?
