Medstory.com - Intelligent Search for Health & Medicine

    medstory

Medstory is an intelligent search engine for the field of health and medicine. After typing in a search term, various options become available for you to choose more specifically what you are looking for. Based on your choice, you receive more useful results for exactly what you are trying to find. Since I am battling a serious cough, I searched for "cough treatment." To refine my search, I could choose from categories such as conditions, procedures, people, and drugs related to my search term. I can also check research findings, web results, news media, clinical trials, and other articles. When clicking on a term to refine your search, you can see featured results from The Wall Street Journal and breastcancer.org if there is information on those sites that apply. So to navigate the list of search results you are returned for any given health or medical keyword, make finding what you are looking for easier by checking out Medstory.

    In their own words

"Medstory's mission is to enable users to search complex fields on the Web intelligently. We're starting with health and medicine – an area where many people will appreciate a service that helps them quickly get high value information, and a field where we have expertise based on our work with health-related organizations.

To us, providing intelligent search means supporting an understanding of both a user's intent behind a search and the results that are delivered. For a field like health and medicine, we believe that search engines should deliver more to users than just a list of Web pages. Our approach is to try to synthesize the meaning of every user search in the context of health and medicine, and then share this knowledge with the user to help refine and guide their search."

Why it might be a killer

Sources from the field will want to be included in the featured search results so that there is a far greater chance of people checking out their information. It's much easier to find what you are looking for quickly because of the various recommended keywords to refine your search.

    Some questions

How will they let people know that their site exists so that it is used instead of Google when people are trying to find information on health and medicine? What other search results will be featured in the future and how will they be organized as more are added over time?
