: If you live in the Washington DC or Baltimore area, you can arrange your social calendar using Localist. There are listings for upcoming music performances and popular venues, all broken down into the neighborhoods you can find them in along with a description of the neighborhood itself. This website serves as a tool to connect the performer, performance space and spectator all together, for there is a chance for all three to be login users in order to exchange details of upcoming events. There’s also an opportunity to network among others using Localist and to RSVP or spread the word about performances of interest. What´s more is there´s a weekly calendar to keep track of your schedule, which is specific to each neighborhood when you follow the neighborhood links. Within each of these pages, tourists and locals alike can discover new information about all of the most popular places and the acts performing in each one.

In their own words
“Our Nation's Capital. The District. Whatever you call DC, it's hard not to enjoy a city packed full of national landmarks, top restaurants, theaters and some of the best nightlife on the East coast. Beyond its most familiar vistas, the capital city unwinds into a lively urban center. And as the birthplace of hardcore punk rock, D.C. has a vibrant music scene and the venues to support it.”
Why it might be a killer
Localist is a great networking tool, creating a space where performer, venue and listener can come together to share news of upcoming events and where all three can find out more information about each other. There is no self-proclaimed expert, for the viewers post the upcoming events and can vote on each one. However, there isn´t much else to distinguish it from other local events sites. Although Localist describes musical acts to come and their venues, it would reach more people if it included more cultural events within DC, such as art, theatre and dance.
Some questions
: Is there a place to include other cultural activities within DC to reach a broader audience? How can Localist incorporate an introduction page to their website to clearly explain what it’s offering? Is it possible to create a section devoted to ongoing musical events within the specific venues or to create a section devoted to clubs with djs?
