    Litesum.com - Faster Wikipedia Search

    litesum

We all use Wikipedia on a regular basis. But do you find the Wikipedia search function a tad slow and outdated? Apparently many people do, which is where Litesum wants to come in. Developed by 15 year-old Jake Jarvis, Litesum aims to be a quick way to get those Wikipedia summaries, biographies, and overviews. Once you get search results, you can then click on certain links to get more information. In my test queries, I wrote in "Buenos Aires," and "Madonna" into the text box, with totally different results. For Buenos Aires, all that came up were the city"s coordinates (or i guess that is what they were). Nothing else appeared. For "Madonna," it took a bit of time but a comprehensive listing of all things famous related to the word Madonna came up, with links to further information. That I considered a successful search. Overall, the site seems a useful tool, although I admit I continue to dislike too simple of site design and layouts (the only thing on the homepage is a giant textbox and a link to the homepage for the founder, with no information about the site whatsoever).

    In their own words

Author"s note: there was absolutely no information about the site on the site.

Why it might be a killer

Many people complain about the pace and function of the Wikipedia search engine, so this site helps to improve that process with its super quick search engine capabilities.

    Some questions

WHy is there nothing on the site about its functionality or purpose? How are they marketing this site to draw more traffic? Are they considering a collaboration with Wikipedia to join efforts and maybe integrate the search engine capabilities of Litesum into Wikipedia? How are they making a profit?
