Nothing is worse than going out to a restaurant and realizing there’s nothing on the menu that whets your appetite. FoodieBytes is a simple web app that aims to help you avoid this annoyance by having you plug in the name of your favorite dish of necessary dietary requirement (for example, “gluten free”) and generates a list of restaurants in your area that offer it. If a certain restaurant piques your interest, you can view the rest of their menu online as well. Not only will you see a list of what restaurants in your region (FoodieBytes has menu info for Boston, Chicago, New York, San Francisco, and DC), you’ll also see pricing information, location, and ratings (if any). If your search yields too many results, you can refine it by neighborhoods (Brooklyn, eg) or nearby towns (Yonkers). Know what you want? You can also search by restaurant name, or by a specific cuisine type (Thai).

In their own words
“FoodieBytes is a simple yet novel way to find new restaurants that serve your usual favorites”.
Why it might be a killer
FoodieBytes helps you to avoid the aggravation of arriving a restaurant and realizing there’s nothing on the menu you want to order. It also helps you determine how far these dining establishments are from you, and what else they have to offer.
Some questions
FoodieBytes only operates in five major U.S. metropolises and surrounding areas; does it plan on expanding? What about a Google Maps mashup to allow you to visualize the location of the restaurants and/or help you get driving directions?
