Trainlogic.net - Train Schedules For Your Mobile Phone

    trainlogic

This is a new mobile app that puts train schedules at your fingertips, and makes your daily commute or that weekend trip a lot easier to handle. After installing the app, you are presented with a list of trains - everything from Amtrak to the Long Island Railroad. You simply pick a line, install the schedule and you're done. You can download multiple schedules, map your trip with GPS and even integrate railroads for connecting trips. This is an interesting application for those that commute on the train or just want to have multiple schedules handy.

The time is more right than ever for such an app. In North America, transit is seeing the highest ridership in 50 years. The average weekday ridership for the 10 largest American commuter railroads (excluding Amtrak) for 4th quarter of 2008 was over 1.65 million. Most of them have mobile phones (smart phones are not necessary for this) and Amtrak is seeing a 12.5% increase in May since a year earlier.

This app has two distinctive features. First, it works with all train lines as if they are one network. Second, it does not require one to have an internet connection all the time. Once you downloaded a schedule it’s available at any point, anywhere.

    In their own words

“TrainSchedule is a Java (J2ME) application that runs on your phone, handheld or PDA and displays schedule information on upcoming trains. If your phone is equipped with a GPS, you also can track yourself while on the train and find out if you're maiking it on time or the train is delayed. The best thing about this program may be that it's easy on your data plan! In fact, you can use TrainSchedule without any data plan at all, because it doesn't need to access the Internet each time you make a request. It is also very fast and easy to use. Finally, it is a powerful tool that can help you find the right train or connection when it’s not obvious.”

Why it might be a killer

It is a tool which can turn out to be a real time saver, and let anybody make plans on the fly.

    Some questions

How much does this cost? Which mobile devices are supported?
