Styky.com - Bringing Social Networking To Your Mobile

    styky

Styky is a social network that crams into your mobile device. Its aim, like any other social network, is to connect you with other people. When you install Styky on your phone, you'll have access to a wide variety of features that let you stay in touch with your friends and show them what's going on in your life. Styky has three main services, "Faces", "Snaps", and "Notes". The "Faces" component is where you can manage, update, and store your contacts. You can create groups among these contacts for faster exchange of information. "Snaps" is Styky's photo-sharing mechanism; you can send pictures from your camera phone to your friends, create albums, and store photos (fyi, you can make any "Snaps" photo your background). "Notes" is more self-explantory; "Notes" works like text messaging, except for that it involves sending a message to a mass group of people and not just an individual. Styky also offers "Steals"; redeemable coupons delivered to your phone by Styky sponsors which you can keep these for your own use or share with friends. Any Styky updates you make, whether on the Styky site or on your mobile device, are detected and reported to your contacts by Styky. If you don't want someone to see a certain piece of information, you can access the privacy controls on the Styky site.

    In their own words

"Welcome to Styky, a new social community fusing friends together on your mobile phone. Think of Styky like a glue that helps connect your friendships and business relationships together. Just like peanut butter adheres to the roof of your mouth, Styky keeps your friends and associates close - all on your mobile phone".

Why it might be a killer

Styky makes it easy for you to stay in touch with your friends and communicate with them en masse. It could also help you make new contacts; for example if someone in your Styky work network sees a cool picture that you've shared with the group, they will have access to your contact info if they wish to get in touch with you.

    Some questions

I'm not convinced that a mobile application like Styky offers enough different features than does your cell phone on its own. You can share photos, send mass text messages and store contacts without this application just fine. Basically, the mobile coupons are the only difference here. Styky doesn't really measure up as a social network either; where are the forums? Link sharing? Videos? Styky leaves something to be desired in both genres it attempts to fill.
