    MsgMe.com - Self-Publishing Mobile Keyword Content

    msgme

This Msgme.com startup is worth checking it out. It is an amazing startup for just everyone that needs that extra push in marketing. This is a quick summary of how it works: you get a keyword with them (for instance, the name of your band, GEEKHEADS). Then, you enter the content for everyone that sends that particular word to the number provided by them: MSGME (67463). So, every time someone send the text message “geekheads” to 67463 (the “ping”), they will get, for example, gig dates, band news, or whatever you might think of putting as a content (the “pong”). But it isn’t only this, because Msgme.com also offers a few other services, mainly features that let you interact with mobile users, such as polls, or quizzes, among many others. This MsgMe.com seems, at least, like a very promising startup.

    In their own words

“Msgme is a mobile messaging platform that gives content owners the ability to add mobile interactivity to their current marketing - online, print, broadcast, or in-venue. The easy-to-use web interface makes self-publishing effortless and gives content owners the power to create flexible mobile campaigns, customize their content delivery and send broadcast messages to their fans, customers, constituents, and friends. In seconds, Msgme can help you create a mobile presence for your company, brand, organization, political campaign, or band. Msgme is brought to you by Waterfall Mobile, a group of Silicon Valley entrepreneurs utilizing technology innovations to create paradigms shifts in our everyday business and personal lives. The Waterfall team consists of top talent from BEA, E*TRADE Financial, eBay, Hotwired, Oracle, TIBCO and have worked on sites and campaigns for William Sonoma, SFMOMA, Pepsi, Coke, Visa International, American Idol, Old Navy, and the U.N.”

Why it might be a killer

This seems to be a great opportunity for small businesses, bands, and even some political activists with not so many cash on them, to interact with the public via their mobile phones. So now, not only the big fish are able to do it, since MsgMe.com is opening this door for just anyone. The only requirement there seems to be is having both a keyword in mind, and some content to send the users who message you. Of course, it is FREE and works with most carriers.

    Some questions

Where is the profit? How many people need this service? Can it be called massive? Are they going to expand to other countries too? Will they add premium services or so to make some bucks? Will they stop being free one day? Won’t users go with mobile messaging companies that are maybe offline but have a name or guarantee some results?
