Kakiloc.com - Location Based Social Networking

Kakiloc is a location based social networking site that hails from Ottawa and it"s well equipped to get your social life going. You can find out where your friends are and when they"ve arrived at a specific destination.

Kakiloc will send you alerts when you"re friends are in your area; you can sent up location based self reminders; and you can find new people who are close to you-- these "close encounters" allow Kakiloc members to meet and greet eachother when they"re in proximity; "second level close encounters" occur when two Kakiloc members with a mutual friend are in the same area. Of course to contact another Kakilo member he/she has to accept the invite. Your whereabouts can only be disclosed if you have a GPS enabled phone, and if you choose to do so. IM integration with the likes of Jabber, MSN, etc, enables users to send out quick updates; status changes can also be updated via email, sms, and other web services. Friends can track your exact whereabouts with Google maps with info about your speed, distance traveled, and time to location. Whenever you or a friend reaches their destination a notification can be sent out to better coordinate plans. Kakiloc is currently in private beta, so you"ll need an invite code to join.

    Kakiloc.com In their own words

"The Kakiloc Location-based service allows you to connect with your friends in order to know where they are.

Why Kakiloc.com might be a killer

Kakiloc"s best feature is the notification tool that alerts you whenever a friend reaches his/her destination so that plans are easier to formulate. Also interesting is the second level close encounter, which makes meeting people slightly easier, given the common friend angle.

    Some questions about Kakiloc.com

LBS based networking is quickly becoming popular; however, many current cell phone users don"t have GPS enabled phones. Also the idea of being tracked whereever you are may not appeal to many.
