In their own words
"PC Calling services such as Skype™ are empowering people to affordably communicate with friends, family and business associates using their broadband Internet connection. iSkoot extends the reach of PC Calling by allowing users to make and receive PC Calls using only their regular cell phones.
With iSkoot, a mobile phone user gets the power of PC Calling as part of their normal communications capabilities. iSkoot eliminates the need for special hardware, headsets, microphones, broadband connections, USB phones and even PCs, and consumers don't have to go looking for a WiFi hot spot.
Our iSkoot phone application, a free small and simple piece of software, and our network gateway connect your voice network with a PC-PC network so that you can use your Internet phone service from a regular cell phone. Everything you can do with online phone services, you can now do on your cell phone powered by iSkoot.
Currently, iSkoot's phone application and network support the Skype™ service, but iSkoot will be expanding support to new platforms and services soon.
Why it might be a killer
By linking Skype's services with mobile internet technology, iSkoot might provide a cheap way to make international calls. Some mobiles might even allow people to see each other as they talk - so it's really like a mobile Skype!
Some questions
The question is, will mobile internet connection costs outweigh the advantage of using this service?
Updates
When you call a Skype contact on your mobile phone, it costs the same as making a local call – so depending on your mobile calling plan, normal airtime charges may apply. Once you're connected to the Skype network, your call works like a regular voice call from your phone. (iSkoot does NOT connect the call using the cellular data channel.) iSkoot also uses a small amount of data to keep the status of your contacts updated.
