In their own words
Twitter being the hit phenomenon that it is, has spawned its own cottage industry of services and apps developed solely to maximize its use. Among them, is EmailTwitter. As the name suggests, EmailTwitter allows Twitterers to post and view tweets via an internet/email enabled mobile device without resulting in SMS fees. Users simply need to ship off an email to twitter@emailtwitter.com, including their Twitter username and password in the message subject header. To avoid having to send their Twitter log-in info with each update, users may also register securely on site. To retrieve friends' tweets or public tweets, users may simply send an email to timeline@emailtwitter.com and include the number of updates to be retrieved in the body of the email. Direct to friend(s) tweet support is also enabled.
Why it might be a killer
EmailTwitter gives Twitterers a practical and costless way to keep their Twitter content fresh. It's especially useful as many Twitter users are gadget fans and tend to organize their lives using smart phones, Blackberries, Palm Pilots and the like.
Some questions
EmailTwitter still requires users to pay for a mobile data plan which could result in possibly more fees than sending an SMS. These days text message plans are relatively cheap, so emailTwitter may not find a huge audience.
