We’ve all heard about Skype and Vonage which use voice over IP technologies to connect the world with free or cheap calls. Both are wonderful services however, they have yet to offer a truly mobile solution that does not require a wireless internet connection. Enter Mobivox, a company that allows you to make free or dirt cheap calls from your landline or mobile phone. Simply dial a local access number, which are available in more than 40 countries, say the name of the person you want to talk to (assuming they are a member), and get connected for the price of a local call. Mobivox also works with Skype so you can call your Skype contacts for free as well. Today, Mobivox announced that it will be adding a new service which will allow you to append a “call me now” add on to your email signature, blog etcetera which will allow anyone to call you without you having to make your phone number public.

Free international calls to or from any mobile phone is a revolutionary concept. For those that travel a lot, this is the solution you’ve been searching for. The call quality is excellent and there are no strings attached. My vote for Killer Startup of the month goes to Mobivox.

Currently, they charge 1.9 cents per minute for calls to mobile phones in many countries. Will they be removing this charge as they expand? Also, calls between members are free but how can one tell who is already a member and who isn’t? Any plans for being able to forward a number from one area code to a mobile phone on the other side of the world for free?

| This iSkoot without the Skype connection. BTW, in the UK, T-Mobile business plans include international calling (Europe, US) in the normal minutes. Also in Europe mobile calls are CPP (Calling Party Pays) so I doubt you'll see the extra mobile charge dropped. | ||
