iJamr.com - Music Marketplace

iJamr.com is an interesting concept that brings new music to website users in a different way than iTunes, Amazon, or MySpace. With iJamr, artists upload however many songs or CDs they choose to. This is then put in a database where website owners can search and choose who they want to be added to their virtual jukebox sort of thing on their page. Visitors to the website see a display of the possible CD choices they can listen to while browsing the site. Then, if the browser comes across something they particularly enjoy and want to download, they have to purchase it for a fee. In this way, everyone involved wins. The artists get 70% of what is sold from them as well as a lot more exposure, the webpage owner has people staying longer on their site to listen to the music and has users linking back to their page if they want to listen to more of what the website owner has selected, and the users get to listen to music they probably wouldn´t have come across generally.

Why it might be a killer

People are always interested in discovering new music, and in this way, they can search a website and do other things while they listen to the music and decide whether they´d like to come back to the website to listen to the music again for free, or download it for future use. Everyone involved stands to make a profit from this site, which is why it is such a great idea. Also, the music being played is generally not the kind that people can search for and find to download on something like limewire or dc++, which increases the likelihood that a listener will purchase the music if they enjoy it.

  Some questions

Will enough artists hear about this site to make the listening selection wide enough? Will website owners want to advertise something that could distract users from the content of the rest of their website? Will this service reach enough people to make it profitable? Will website owners want to spend extra time going through the different artists to try and find something that they like if they´ve never heard of any of the posted musicians before?
