MeGlobe allows people with different first languages to chat with each other without having to worry about making the translation from their language to their fellow chatter’s. Translations from one language to the next are made in real time, so that you can be on the same page despite not speaking the same tongue. The site works so that users can help to fine-tune the switch from language to language while they are speaking. If a translation is a little off, the native speaker can edit what has been said, helping to create a better service for other users of the site and showing their chat partner the changes as soon as they are made. MeGlobe is browser based, so you don’t have to download any software in order to enjoy it. Just have the person you want to chat with join the site, and as long as you can communicate that on your own, you’re good to go.

| Why it might be a killer | |||

Automatic, real time translations for chat are definitely useful as the world becomes smaller and smaller and more globally connected. Not having to worry if what you are saying is accurate and that you’re getting your point across is definitely a stress reliever when you don’t have someone to help translate around. Because native speakers will help to improve the technicalities of the translations, the site will become more and more useful and accurate with time, not completely reliant or grammatically correct and limited dictionaries.

Will they make user profiles more detailed so that people can find people to chat with on the site if they don’t have a friend already on it? Could they maybe have some sort of script written out that you can copy-paste to your chat buddy based on the language that they speak instructing them to sign up with MeGlobe so that they can start communicating?
