Tumiu.com - Track Your Trips

Tumiu.com is a new photoblog cum Google maps service. The idea is that you use it to map your trips, and upload images of the places where you’ve been using the maps, so that whenever someone points to a place in the map, they get to see all the pictures that other users have associated with that particular location. Users also keep a blog commenting on their experiences and photos, so that they are not just random shots but can be better understood; however, be warned that the site is a German startup, which means that for the time being lots of the comments and blog posts are in German because that seems to be the largest audience the site has. Tumiu.com supports both photos and videos, but these have to be embedded in the site and not directly uploaded; they have plans to allow audio files in the future too.

“With TumiU you keep track of all events and experiences of your life worldwide and share them with friends. Capture all events, experiences or recommendations from your trips, travel, leisure, hobby and everyday life. With TumiU you link all your photos, YouTube-videos, music-files (later) and comments with visited or current locations and shows them on Google Maps/Earth”.

Having the possibility of keeping track of one’s trips in real time is always a great resource, both for oneself and for those who stay at home, as they can be updated all the time of what you are up to, and also to get to see them on a map is quite cool.

Tumiu.com is hardly a forerunner in a very crowded industry. How are they planning to stick from the rest of the travelogue sites that present similar features to theirs?
