Site.Gravatar.com - Your Own Logo for the Net

    site

Gravatar is a plugin for blogs which identifies you as you participate on blogs or other sites. Meaning Globally Recognized Avatar, Gravatars give regular folks a way to brand themselves in the blogosphere—every time you post a comment or participate in any way on a blog, you beloved avatar will show up, leaving your mark upon the net. The avatars are simple 80x80 pixel images—you’ll need to upload your very own as no defaults are provided. Plugins are available for most blog platforms (Movable Type, WordPRess, Blogger, LiveJournal, for example). It’s free to use but you will need to sign up first to get results.

    In their own words

“A gravatar, or globally recognized avatar, is quite simply an 80×80 pixel avatar image that follows you from weblog to weblog appearing beside your name when you comment on gravatar enabled sites. Avatars help identify your posts on web forums, so why not on weblogs?”

Why it might be a killer

This is a great way to extend the brand that is you around the net. You’ll make a larger mark, and people will associate your avatar with your comments. Good for gaining attention, audiences. Makes it easier to find certain comments and posts.

    Some questions

This is a rather one dimensional tool. There’s no social aspect and some people may find the branding aspect ingratiating. Will more features be added?
