The founders of ScratchBack describe their site as an 'online tipping system,' in which bloggers and site owners can accept tips in exchange for links and images. Here's how it works: first, as a publisher, you'll need to create your own, customizable Scratchback widget (called TopSpots) and place it on your site; next a listing of Topspots appears on your site and when readers mouse over it a pop up message offering more info is displayed. To get more info, the visitor will pay you a tip, the price of which you decide. Several widget versions are available. Sign up is free although Scratchback will take a small cut from each TopSpot transaction.

Why it might be a killer

Scratchback offers a cool way for visitors to show their appreciation for a blog and get an image or text too. It's a good alternative to ad networks, and it could make publishers a nice amount of cash. Google, moreover won't penalize these ads.

Some questions

Will they add a list of sites that feature the TopSpot widget so other users can advertise with more flexibility? Will people be so generous as to provide tips?
