BuddyPress is an initiative that adds community features to WordPressMU, the multiblog version of WordPress. In essence, BuddyPress comprises a series of plugins that add specific functionalities, whereas a core plugin that acts as the center of the whole system is also part of the package.





The best thing of BudyPress is that you can just implement specific functionalities (such as private messaging) or turn your blog into a fully-fledged social site. In that sense, it can be said that the service has something in store for anybody.

This site is devoted to themes for such a platform. The company is based in Italy, and they are focusing on giving a nice set of garments to a platform they appreciate a lot and that they believe is set for great things.

The first BuddyPress theme that has been released by them goes by the name of Facebuddy, and it gives any private network a Facebook outlook. Another one that has just surfaced is entitled DarkPress, and it gives any blog a moody look. It reminded me quite a bit of the first season of CSY: NY in the sense that blue was the predominant color in the palette. Let’s see which ones are coming next, and how they can suit different users.
