Blogomail’s creators compare the service to an online form of text messaging- the Blogomail widget serves as a “phone,” which is embedded in a user’s web pages (blog, myspace, etc), and friends can “text” from their own Blogomail account. When mail is received, Blogomail posts the photo and subject heading from the message- publicly displaying that the user has a new message. Blogomail is entirely permission based, so there is so risk of spam. The Blogomail profile is simple- it contains just a profile icon, photos, an inbox and an area to write messages. The widget can also be customized to blend in with whatever page it is displayed on.

More interestingly, some users employ Blogomail as a means to publicly display instant feedback on their webpages. The widget is as instant as a blog comment but more centrally displayed.

Blogomail strives to be as ubiquitous as text messaging by appearing on a user’s most frequented web pages. However, traditional messaging services (AOL, msn) actually do a much better job at being accessible, no matter what page a user visits.
