BlackWeb20.com - African-American Representation

The newly launched site BlackWeb 2.0 configures itself as a platform for discussing and examining the various nuances of sites aimed at black users. While to many web 2.0 signifies a democratization of the web, a web crafted for the people, designer and Black Web’s creator, Angela Benton, noticed a different reality altogether. She began to realize that sites targeted to African-Americans differed greatly from sites catered to the general public. BlackWeb 2.0 is her forum for pointing out design strategies, user features, and marketing strategies. This blog will soon offer demographic research tools, a web 2.0 feature matrix, and resources for addressing web trend on African American websites. Expect, also, to find advice and criticisms from guest bloggers.

  In their own words

“Black Web 2.0 addresses emerging web trends and how they apply to web properties that target African-Americans or African-American culture. Recently there has been a surge of websites that target this industry someone of which were existing and redesigned to either freshen their look or take advantage of new social technologies. In addition, I would like to offer tools such as research and advice from guest bloggers to help those websites (new or existing) to benefit from their knowledge.”

Why it might be a killer

BlackWeb 2.0 offers interesting insight into the formation and design of websites targeted to black audiences. There’s definitely substance to Ms. Benton’s posts and many are bound to be fascinated by the divide that pervades even the most modern of technologies. Her remarks are insightful and informed

  Some questions

How will the site get important guest bloggers? More reader input-- e.g discussion boards?
